Flower of the Day: Forsythia (for-SITH-ee-a)

With Sunday being the first day of Spring the forsythia is the flower of the day,  this is a flowering decidious shrub in the olive family with availability from January- April. 

In the Northeast its just starting to bud, and if you cut some branches from your yard, you can bring these in the house place in a vase and allow top open naturally and bring some spring indoors.

Colors: Yellow
Characteristics:  Bright 1-1 1/2 star shaped flowers with 4-5 petals clustered along 30-48" branching stems that lasts about 7-14 days

Meaning: Anticipation
